What do the colors mean?
The white arrow on the runway points the way the traffic is going. Derived from the positions of aircraft flying low near the airport right now. Not an official runway plan; what we see.
Designation, direction and length of every runway. These rarely change; which one is in use right now shows up here whenever we observe traffic.
3 runways · Longest runway: 12,467 ft
We currently see no traffic on approach or just after takeoff. That happens at a quiet airport or in the middle of the night.

Fly direct
The destinations we know the most flight numbers for. That approximates how heavily a route is served; it is not a passenger count.
Other airports within reach, with the straight-line distance and the number of direct destinations we know of. Airports without scheduled service are left out.
Airport facts
Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport (IATA BEY, ICAO OLBA) lies on the coast just nine kilometers south of central Beirut, in the suburbs of the capital. It is Lebanon's only commercial airport and the home of Middle East Airlines, and for the large Lebanese diaspora in Europe, the Gulf, Africa and the Americas it is the airport of homecoming; every summer and every Christmas it fills with returning families. The live radar on this page shows the traffic over the Mediterranean approach; the arrivals and departures pages are linked above it. Lebanon is one hour ahead of Central Europe.
Middle East Airlines is by far the largest carrier and flies to Paris, London, Frankfurt, Rome, Milan, Geneva, Brussels, Istanbul, Cairo, Amman, Dubai, Doha and across the Gulf and West Africa. Turkish Airlines and Pegasus connect Istanbul, flydubai, Emirates and Qatar Airways the Gulf hubs, EgyptAir Cairo, Royal Jordanian Amman, Kuwait Airways Kuwait, and Air France, Eurowings and Aegean fly in from Europe. In our route data, Amman, Istanbul, Dubai, Paris and Larnaca are the most frequently flown connections.
There is no train or metro, and the bus service is not practical for most visitors, so taxis are the way in: the official airport taxis wait outside arrivals and the ride to Hamra, downtown or Achrafieh takes twenty to forty minutes depending on the traffic, which in Beirut can be heavy. Agree the fare before you get in, or use a ride-hailing app such as Uber or Bolt, which work well in the city. Hotels can arrange a driver. Rental cars are available in the terminal, though driving in Beirut is not for the faint-hearted.
The airport has a single terminal with departures upstairs and arrivals below, and the gates a short walk from the central hall; arrive early, because there are several security checks before the gate and the queues at passport control can be long when the European flights arrive together. The security and political situation in Lebanon changes quickly and has repeatedly disrupted flights in recent years, so check your government's travel advice and your airline's status before you travel. Larnaca in Cyprus, forty minutes away by air, is the closest alternative gateway to the region. Every airport we track is listed in the airport overview.
