Kotoka International Airport (IATA ACC, ICAO DGAA) lies in the Airport Residential Area, only ten kilometers from the center of Accra, the capital of Ghana, and surrounded by the city's business districts and embassies. It is the main airport of Ghana and one of the best-connected in West Africa, with flights to Europe, North America, the Gulf and across the continent, and since 2018 it operates international flights from a modern Terminal 3 that ranks among the most comfortable on the continent. Airlines and destinations

KLM flies daily from Amsterdam, British Airways from London Heathrow, Brussels Airlines from Brussels, Turkish Airlines from Istanbul, Delta and United from New York and Washington, Emirates and Qatar Airways from the Gulf, and TAP Air Portugal from Lisbon. Within Africa, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, Royal Air Maroc, South African Airways, Air Côte d'Ivoire and ASKY connect the hubs and the neighboring capitals, and Africa World Airlines and PassionAir fly the domestic routes to Kumasi, Tamale and Takoradi. Getting into Accra

Taxis wait at the official rank outside Terminal 3 and charge fixed fares by zone; the ride to the hotels of Airport City, Cantonments and Osu takes ten to thirty minutes, longer in the heavy evening traffic. Ride-hailing through Uber and Bolt is widely used and cheaper, with a pick-up zone at the terminal. Many hotels send a car. There is no train or practical bus for visitors, though the city's trotro minibuses pass on the main road. Rental cars with a driver are the usual choice for trips out of town.

Good to know

International flights use Terminal 3, with departures upstairs and arrivals below and the gates a short walk from the central hall; domestic flights use Terminal 2 next door. The European and American departures leave together in the late evening, so arrive three hours ahead, as the airlines require, because document checks are repeated several times. Visitors from most countries need a visa, obtained in advance from a Ghanaian embassy or, for some, on arrival with prior approval; a yellow fever certificate is compulsory.
