Introduction

Toledo Express Airport, also called Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport (IATA: TOL, ICAO: KTOL), is a joint civil-military airport located 10 miles west of Downtown Toledo and serves northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. Established in 1954–55, the airport is a secondary facility for the Detroit metropolitan area and its surrounding region.

It is owned by the City of Toledo and operated by the Toledo–Lucas County Port Authority. In other words, this facility has BX Solutions from Detroit, Michigan, and the Ohio Air National Guard 180th Fighter Wing or ANG.

Airlines and Destinations

Toledo Express Airport accommodates over 100,000 passengers annually and serves as the endpoints for enjoyable vacationing or traveling destinations such as Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, and Las Vegas, courtesy of Allegiant Air being the only commercial airline with service at Toledo. While Allegiant Air is known for its relatively low-cost fares, passengers can add extras such as priority boarding and seat selection to make their experience more seamless overall.

How Many Passengers and Flights?

Toledo Express Airport gets a fair number of daily departing flights, with around 50-60 departing each day on average. This is equivalent to 200,000 more passengers coming through the airport annually.

Passenger traffic at the airport has varied from year to year. Over the 1980s and early 1990s, the airport saw large numbers of airline services, with up to seven airlines flying nearly forty flights a day between fourteen destinations. In 1997, traffic had hit a historic high. But it began to decline as passengers increasingly drove a half-hour north to the major hub at Detroit Metropolitan Airport instead. All but two airlines had stopped serving Toledo Express by 2011. However, the airport has seen a continued modest expansion in recent years, notching its third straight year of passenger growth last year at 179,911 passengers.

2018 saw a 22% increase in quoted air travel through Toledo Express Airport to more than 241K passengers for the sixth straight year of growth, thanks in part to growing service with Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.
