Aeroflot was founded on February 3, 1923, with its headquarters located in Moscow, Russia. The airline is the flag carrier of the Russian Federation and is considered one of the oldest airlines in the world. Aeroflot is 51%-owned by the Russian government and it operates domestic and international passengers from its main hub at Sheremetyevo International Airport.
The airline is one of the members of the SkyTeam airline alliance since 2006.
