GoAir History

GoAir is an Indian low-cost carrier that was founded in November 2005 by Jehangir Wadia. It started flying from Mumbai to Ahmedabad on November 4, 2005, using an Airbus A320 aircraft, and initially operated with a single aircraft to four destinations that include Goa and Coimbatore. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary group of the Wadia Group with its headquarters located in Mumbai, India. The airline has hubs at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore, Kannur International Airport and Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai.

Its theme, “Fly Smart”, aimed at offering its passengers cheap fares with a consistent, quality-assured, and time-efficient service.

As a budget airline, GoAir does not provide complimentary meals on its flight but it offers buy-on-board in-flight meals.

GoAir has recently partnered with Navitaire to upgrade its Passenger Service System.

GoAir Fleet

GoAir operates with Airbus A320 and A320neo aircraft as its fleet. The airline has a fleet size of 51 Airbus A320 with an average fleet age of 3.4 years. With its expansion plan, the airline has placed a firm order of 144 Airbus A320neo aircraft which has already begun in delivery with 47 A320neo aircraft as part of its fleet.

GoAir Interesting Facts

GoAir offers Go Business, the airline’s premium service which provides extra services including seats with greater legroom, complimentary meals onboard, priority boarding, and increased baggage allowance for a higher fare. The airline also has an in-flight magazine that is called Go-getter.

GoAir and SpiceJet, both Indian airlines, entered into talks in November 2009 for a possible merger but ends in no-deal after the two carriers failed to come to a consensus on valuation and branding related issues.

GoAir’s domestic destinations include Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Bagdogra, Leh, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kochi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Port Blair, Pune, Ranchi, Srinagar, and Kannur; while its international destinations include Male, Muscat, Phuket, Dubai, Bangkok, and Abu Dhabi.
