GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes S.A or also known as GOL Intelligent Airlines S.A. is a Brazilian low-cost carrier based in Rio de Janeiro. As per the statistics released by the National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil (ANAC), between January and December 2018, GOL had a total of 35.7% of the domestic and 9.6% of the international market shares concerning the passengers per kilometer flown. Having said so, it became the largest domestic and third-largest international airline in Brazil. GOL’s competes not only in Brazil but also in the other South American countries namely Chilean LATAM Airlines Group, Brazilian Azul and Colombia-based Avianca Holdings S.A. On March 28, 2007, GOL officially purchased some parts of the assets of VRG Linhas Aéreas. During that time, the informally known old Varig was under bankruptcy protection. Moving forward in 2009, GOL was merged into VRG Linhas Aéreas, doing such merging, it became an airline that operates two brands namely GOL and Varig though flights are mainly operated under GOL flight numbers.

On July 9, 2011, the owner of Gol and Varig, which is VRG Linhas Aéreas announced its intention to fully acquire the WebJet Linhas Aéreas. The contract was signed on August 2, 2011, and received its final approval on October 10, 2012. The integration with regards to its services started on October 17, 2012, as the sales requested via Webjet’s web-portal started to be redirected to GOL’s site. However, Webjet shortly ceased to operate and all its services were transferred to GOL.
