Juneyao Airlines was founded in 2005, with its headquarters located in Shanghai, China. It is a subsidiary of Shanghai Juneyao (Group) Co. Ltd., and it commenced its operation on September 25, 2006. The airline mainly operates in business of flying passengers, cargo and mail, and business and tourist charter. Juneyao Airlines was the first connecting partner of Star Alliance since May 2017. The Connecting Partner is the new program of the alliance that allows airlines to link in Star Alliance without being a member, connecting partners can have a full link with three or more member of the alliance but not with all of its 28 members.

The airlines’ hubs are located at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
