What do the colors mean?
The white arrow on the runway points the way the traffic is going. Derived from the positions of aircraft flying low near the airport right now. Not an official runway plan; what we see.
Designation, direction and length of every runway. These rarely change; which one is in use right now shows up here whenever we observe traffic.
2 runways · Longest runway: 8,707 ft
We currently see no traffic on approach or just after takeoff. That happens at a quiet airport or in the middle of the night.
Runway data: OurAirports, public domain.
Practical
Transport by train and bus; parking at the airport; picking someone up or dropping them off.
Fly direct
The destinations we know the most flight numbers for. That approximates how heavily a route is served; it is not a passenger count.
Other airports within reach, with the straight-line distance and the number of direct destinations we know of. Airports without scheduled service are left out.
Airport facts
Aalborg Airport (IATA AAL, ICAO EKYT) lies at Nørresundby, just six kilometers northwest of the center of Aalborg, across the Limfjord, in the north of Jutland in Denmark. It is the third airport of Denmark and the gateway to the whole of North Jutland, from the beaches of Skagen and the dunes of the west coast to the city itself, and it shares its runways with an air force base, so the radar shows fighters and transports alongside the airliners. The live radar on this page shows the traffic over the Limfjord; the arrivals and departures pages are linked above it.
The Copenhagen shuttle is the backbone, flown many times a day by SAS and Norwegian and connecting in Kastrup with the rest of the world; KLM flies to Amsterdam, the other gateway abroad, and Norwegian also to Oslo, London Gatwick, Málaga, Alicante and Nice in season. The Danish leisure airlines Sunclass Airlines and Jettime fly package-holiday charters to the Mediterranean and the Canaries, and Atlantic Airways connects the Faroe Islands. In our route data, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Málaga, Oslo and Billund are the most frequently flown connections.
Bus 12 runs from the terminal to the center of Aalborg and the railway station in about twenty minutes, every quarter of an hour, with a ticket bought on board or in the Rejsekort app, and the airport's own small railway station has trains to Aalborg and on to Aarhus. Taxis take ten to fifteen minutes to the center. By car, the E39 and E45 motorways pass close by; parking is in front of the terminal, with cheaper long-term lots a short walk away. Rental cars are in the arrivals hall, and a car is the practical way to reach Skagen and the coast.
Aalborg has one terminal with a single security checkpoint and the gates a few steps away; an hour before departure is plenty, except on the charter departure days in the school holidays. Denmark is in Schengen and cards work everywhere. The air force base means occasional noise and restricted areas. For more routes, Billund is two hours south with Ryanair and the Legoland crowds, Aarhus is the small airport of Denmark's second city, and Copenhagen is the hub for everything else. Every airport we track is listed in the airport overview.
