Akwa Ibom: the home airport of Ibom Air

Akwa Ibom International Airport (IATA QUO, ICAO DNAI) lies at Okobo, about 25 kilometers from Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State in the southeast of Nigeria, on the Gulf of Guinea. Opened in 2009 and built by the state government, it is one of the newest airports in Nigeria, with a long runway and a maintenance hangar project meant to turn it into a regional hub, and it is the home base of Ibom Air, the airline the state founded in 2019 and one of the most punctual carriers in the country. The radar on this page shows what our data sources report around Uyo; the arrivals and departures pages are linked above it.

Airlines and destinations

Ibom Air flies from Uyo to Lagos and Abuja several times a day and connects Enugu, Calabar, Port Harcourt and Kano through its network, and has begun international flights to Accra from its Lagos base; Air Peace and other Nigerian carriers also serve the Lagos and Abuja routes at various times. There are no direct international flights to Europe. Schedules in Nigeria's domestic market change often, so check the current timetable. Uyo lies beyond the reach of our receivers, so the live radar depends on other data sources.

Getting into Uyo

Taxis and hotel drivers wait outside the terminal for the drive into Uyo, about 30 to 40 minutes along the airport road; most visitors on business or for the state's conferences are met by their hosts. Agree the fare before setting off if you take a taxi. There is no bus service worth planning around. Calabar, the capital of neighboring Cross River State, is about two hours away by road.

Good to know

The terminal is a single modern building with one departure hall and a few gates, and security screening is thorough, so arrive an hour and a half ahead; the Lagos flights are often full. Delays and cancellations are common in Nigeria's domestic network, so leave time for connections in Lagos or Abuja. Read your government's travel advice for southeastern Nigeria before traveling. The international gateways are Lagos and Abuja; Port Harcourt and Calabar are the regional alternatives. Every airport we track is listed in the airport overview.
