What do the colors mean?
The white arrow on the runway points the way the traffic is going. Derived from the positions of aircraft flying low near the airport right now. Not an official runway plan; what we see.
Designation, direction and length of every runway. These rarely change; which one is in use right now shows up here whenever we observe traffic.
3 runways · Longest runway: 7,602 ft
We currently see no traffic on approach or just after takeoff. That happens at a quiet airport or in the middle of the night.

Fly direct
The destinations we know the most flight numbers for. That approximates how heavily a route is served; it is not a passenger count.
Other airports within reach, with the straight-line distance and the number of direct destinations we know of. Airports without scheduled service are left out.
Airport facts
William P. Hobby Airport, known to travelers as HOU airport (ICAO: KHOU), serves Houston in the United States from a position at 29.6453 degrees north, 95.2768 degrees west. It falls in the large airport class in our database, yet in our own traffic measurement it comes across as a quiet field. The live radar on this page shows the aircraft in and out of Hobby right now, and the arrivals and departures pages linked above it carry the current status of each flight; the sections below explain what our receivers hear at Hobby over a full month, which airlines account for it, and which other airports lie within reach.
Our own reception measurement at HOU covers 30 days. The outcome: an average of 2.0 aircraft observations per day, which is what earns Hobby the quiet label in our data. The busiest window in that period fell between 20:00 and 22:00. We log times in UTC, not Houston local time, so read that window as the two hours of the day in which our receivers picked up the most HOU traffic, and convert it before comparing it with a local timetable. These figures describe what our own receivers heard rather than the airport's complete schedule. Within that limit, the numbers give a consistent picture of when our receivers hear the most traffic at HOU and how much of it there is on an average day.
Two carriers appear in our Hobby data. Our receivers logged Southwest Airlines 39 times in 30 days, making it by far the most visible airline in this measurement. Anyone following a specific Southwest service can look it up on our Southwest flight status page. Delta Air Lines turned up just twice in the same 30 days; for those flights, the Delta flight status page is the place to check. The gap between the two is large, 39 sightings against 2 over the same period, and those are the only two carriers in our HOU data. Use the airline pages when you follow a carrier across several airports; for one flight at Hobby, the arrivals or departures page linked above the radar is the quicker route.
Hobby is not the only option in the region. George Bush Intercontinental Airport lies 38 km away and is the nearest alternative in our data. After that the list thins out: Jack Brooks Regional Airport follows at 126 km, and Easterwood Field sits at 148 km. The distance picture is therefore lopsided: one airport close enough to matter for most Houston trips, and two fields far beyond the city that only come into play for travelers heading in that direction anyway.
