Spirit AeroSystems—Fulfilling a Mission to Bring Aviation Development into the Future — by Dr. Jana Weir
Introduction
Located in the midst of America's heartland, Spirit of St. Louis Airport (SUS) is a bustling regional airport that helps to keep people and goods moving within and around the Greater St. Louis area. Named after the epic aircraft that completed the first non-stop flight from New York to Paris, this airport has a storied past and an ambitious future.
Airlines and Destinations
Spirit of St. Louis Airport is a base for several airlines, with it offering both domestic and international flights. All three major carriers, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines serve SUS with regular passenger service to most U.S. destinations as well as beyond. Low-cost carriers also offer low-priced travel opportunities, with Allegiant Air and Frontier Airlines being prime examples.
Passenger and Flight Numbers
Passenger traffic and flight operations at the Spirit of St. Louis Airport have both shown moderate growth in recent years, tending to rise or fall with the economy as a whole. During 2021, the airport handled more than a million passengers, making this our busiest year to date as we continue to serve an expanding market. The airport now accommodates roughly 100 flights per day, with destinations covering the business and city break market alike.
