Introduction
Taylor Airport (IATA: TYZ, FAA LID: TYL) is a public use airport in Navajo County, Arizona located 2 miles southwest of the central business district of Taylor. It has an area of 102 acres at an elevation of 6 meters covering one runway, (7/25) with a concrete surface. Despite its modest size, the Taylor Airport makes big contributions to regional aviation needs with service of corporate and charter flights as well as significant air transportation for community residents.
Airlines and Destinations
There is no scheduled commercial airline service at Taylor Airport. It serves mostly general aviation (private and business flights) with private planes. Appearing on a list of defunct airports, the old description describes it like this: "no longer serving commercial air travelers anything beyond general aviation" or in other words, stoppage.
Passenger and Flight Volume
Taylor Airport is a general aviation airport, so passenger or flight statistics are not detailed. Nonetheless, given its dimensions and function, it is likely that the level of activity conducted at this aerodrome will be relatively low on an annual basis with a mix of private aviation use (flights carried out by individuals for business or their own purposes), along with business flights and occasional rural commercial operations servicing the local area.
How to Get Here
The Taylor Airport is located at 1020 Airport Road, Tombstone, Arizona 85939. You can get to it by land, either by local streets or freeway. State Route 77 is a right of way that runs north-south and acts as the next major highway in this area.
Parking
The airport also features on-site visitor and pilot parking. The land is indeed parkland, and parking at venues that have the capacity (meaning not College Park) will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no short- or long-term reserved parking and no covered lot.
Transportation Prices
There is no public transportation available at Taylor Airport. Airport visitors can only travel to and from the airport by their own car, taxi or (Uber) rideshare service. The cost in these modes of transportation depends on the provider as well as upon how far you are travelling.
Terminal Layout
The airport has a single terminal building which includes administrative office, pilot's lounge and limited passenger facilities. Because the facility is not connected to any scheduled commercial routes, there are no separate concourses or gate areas.
Navigate the Airport
Taylor Airport, due to its small size and single terminal, is quite manageable for passengers. There are signs that guide visitors to the main entrance, parking area or terminal building. There is no complexity or multilevel layout.
Getting Between Terminals
There is only one terminal at Taylor Airport, so you do not have to worry about navigating between different terminals or concourses. Passengers will be able to walk directly from the covered parking area into the terminal building.
Services and Amenities
Taylor Airport has limited general aviation services and facilities. Those offerings will be a pilot lounge, restrooms and limited vending. There are no food, shopping or other major passenger facilities on site.
Restaurants and Shops
Inside the Taylor Airport terminal, there are no restaurants, stores or other commercial places. Taylor has several off-site businesses to offer food, shopping and various other services not available inside the terminal.
Security and Customs
Taylor Airport is a general aviation airport, and operates with limited security procedures since there are no scheduled commercial flights. The airport has no TSA checkpoints or on-site customs facility. Military and other federal missions are equipped to deal with the challenges and requirements, as needed; private charter passengers shall accommodate such migratory agencies responsible for addressing them.
Accessibility
We endeavor to provide facilities and services for all our passengers with disabilities. For passengers with limited mobility, the terminal building and car park will contain disability-friendly features. Help will be offered on request.
Travel Tips
- Get there early, as it takes longer to move you through the smaller general aviation airports.
- Be sure to pack any supplies you will need as there are limited on-site facilities.
- Get to know the airport layout and flow in advance.
- Plan for ground transportation ahead of time, as public transport is not available.
- Verify weather and runway conditions, as regional airport operations may be more affected by the elements.
