History of United Airlines
United Airlines Holdings, Inc., which is known as United was founded on April 6, 1926. With its roots from Varney Airlines and Varney Speed Lines that were started by Walter Varney. It is a major American airline, with its headquarters at Willis Tower, in Chicago, Illinois and is now considered one of the largest commercial airlines in the world. It is also one of the founding members of the Star Alliance, which is the world’s largest airline alliance with Lufthansa, Air Canada, SAS, and Thai International as co-founders. With codeshare agreements with airlines like Air China, Air New Zealand, Egypt Air, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, among others, United also has a joint venture with Air Canada, Lufthansa, Air New Zealand, Brussels Airlines All Nippon Airways, Austrian Airlines, and Swiss International Airlines.

With a fleet size of 784 aircraft, United Airlines operates an all Boeing and Airbus aircraft. With its nine narrow aircraft retiring this year, United plans to add 40 mainline aircraft to its fleet this 2019.
United Airline was also the first US carrier to fly the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

At Ellen Church’s suggestion, United was the one to have pioneered the notion of female flight attendants in 1930, where all 8 of flight attendants were registered nurse.
United is also taking pride in helping the Earth with their environmental efforts. United has become the first American airline to begin using commercial-scale biofuel in 2016, and with this effort was honored as “Eco-Airline of the Year” in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
In May 2010, United Airlines merged with Continental Airlines after seeing the merger agreement between Delta Airlines and Northwest Airlines.
United Airlines was also named Top Company for disability inclusion for four consecutive years.
