What do the colors mean?
The white arrow on the runway points the way the traffic is going. Derived from the positions of aircraft flying low near the airport right now. Not an official runway plan; what we see.
Designation, direction and length of every runway. These rarely change; which one is in use right now shows up here whenever we observe traffic.
2 runways · Longest runway: 13,386 ft
We currently see no traffic on approach or just after takeoff. That happens at a quiet airport or in the middle of the night.

Practical
Transport by bus and taxi; parking at the airport; picking someone up or dropping them off.
Fly direct
The destinations we know the most flight numbers for. That approximates how heavily a route is served; it is not a passenger count.
Other airports within reach, with the straight-line distance and the number of direct destinations we know of. Airports without scheduled service are left out.
Airport facts
Muscat International Airport (IATA MCT, ICAO OOMS) lies at Seeb, about 30 kilometers west of the old center of Muscat and close to the hotels and beaches of the capital area. It is Oman's main airport and the home of Oman Air, and since the opening of its vast new terminal in 2018 one of the most comfortable airports in the Gulf, a quieter alternative to Dubai and Doha for travelers between Europe and India or East Africa, and the starting point for Oman's deserts, wadis and mountains. The live radar on this page shows the traffic around Muscat; the arrivals and departures pages are linked above it.
Oman Air is the largest carrier and flies to London Heathrow, Munich, Zurich, Milan, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Manila and across India, Pakistan and the Gulf; SalamAir is the Omani low-cost airline for the Gulf, India, Bangladesh and East Africa. Emirates, flydubai, Qatar Airways, Etihad and Air Arabia connect the other Gulf hubs, IndiGo and Air India Express carry the large Indian community, and Turkish Airlines flies to Istanbul. In our route data, Dubai, Mumbai, Sharjah, Hyderabad and Abu Dhabi are the most frequently flown connections, and Bangkok, London Heathrow and Kuala Lumpur the busiest long-haul routes.
Taxis wait outside arrivals and run on the meter, with a surcharge from the airport; the ride to the hotels of Qurum and Al Khuwair takes twenty to thirty minutes, to Muttrah and the old town about 45 minutes. Ride-hailing through Otaxi and Careem works well and is cheaper. Mwasalat buses run from the airport along the main highway into the city and to the bus station, a cheap option with light luggage. Rental cars are available in the terminal, and a car is the natural way to see Oman; the highways are excellent and fuel is cheap.
The 2018 terminal is a single huge building with the gates along two piers; distances are long but the signage is good, and transfers within Oman Air's network are easy, with ninety minutes comfortable. Oman grants visa-free entry or e-visas to most visitors depending on the length of stay; check the rules before you travel. The climate is extreme in summer, with temperatures well above 40 degrees from May to September, so the tourist season runs from October to April. For the south, Salalah has its own international flights, and Dubai is a four-hour drive or a short flight away. Every airport we track is listed in the airport overview.
