American Airlines History
American Airlines started its operations in 1930 comprising of eight small airlines. Its inaugural flight happened exactly on June 26, 1936, with simultaneous flights commencing from Newark, New Jersey, and Chicago. It ranked as one of the world’s largest airline in terms of its fleet size, revenue, the number of passengers carried, kilometers flown, and wide-array of destinations being served. This airline company in conjunction with its regional partners was able to provide scheduled services both to international and domestic destinations in more than 50 countries with approximately 7,000 flights daily. Its regional operations are being carried by under American Eagle as its brand. Concerning America Airline’s global alliance, it is a founding member of Oneworld or also known as the third-largest aviation alliance worldwide.
American Airlines’ biggest hub is located in Dallas while its primary maintenance base is located in Tulsa. The Robertson Aircraft was founded in the year 1921 in Missouri. However, the two organizations were merged into one company named The Aviation Corporation in the year 1929. American Airlines originated from the two organizations namely Robertson Aircraft Corporation and Colonial Air Transport. A year after, it was rebranded and migrate into an operating company called American Airways. Due to the creation of new laws and contracts, various airline companies were forced to reorganize and in the year 1934, it was renamed as American Airlines. Between the years of 1970 and 2000, this airline company continues to expand which later on purchased Trans World Alliance in the year 2001.
Unfortunately, the parent company of American airlines which is AMR Corporation filed for a bankruptcy case in the year 2011. Two years after, American Airlines was able to merge with US Airways. Even after the merger, its name has been kept since it was already widely recognized brand worldwide. The merging of American Airlines and US Airways resulted in the creation of one of the largest airline company not only in the United States but also worldwide.

As of 2019, American Airlines currently flies to over a hundred domestic and international destinations in over 50 countries located in the five continents.
