The original Frontier Airlines was founded in 1950 and operated from Denver, the airline, however, ceased operations in 1986. The airline carried 87 million passengers when it closed down and was incorporated into Continental Airlines. Continental closed the Denver hub in 1993 and in 1994 Frontier Airlines was again launched and they started operating between Denver and four destinations which quickly expanded to other destinations. The Denver hub was reopened and the airline used Boeing 737-200 airliners to transport passengers. The new Frontier Airlines experienced fast growth and was included during 2001 by Fortune magazine, on their list of companies with the fastest growth. During 2008 Frontier filed for bankruptcy but continued with its operations. Republic Airways Holdings bought Frontier and Midwest airlines and merged them under the Frontier banner during 2010. Frontier Airlines with its headquarters Denver, Colorado is an ultra-low-cost carrier and is ranked amongst the eight largest commercial airlines in the USA. The airline is a subsidiary of Indigo LLC and flies to more than 80 destinations in the US and 6 international destinations.
Frontier Airlines was during 2003 the launch customer of the Airbus A318 and in 2005 they sold their last Boeing 737 and they officially became an exclusive Airbus fleet. Their current fleet consists of 79 aircraft with a further 194 on order. The Frontier Airlines fleet is constantly being renewed and their Airbus A321 neo aircraft give them the leading fuel efficiency in the airline industry. They are the second operator of the A321 neo aircraft in the US and their fleet is one of the youngest and most modern, compared to other low-cost airlines.

Frontier Airlines has one of the best safety records in the industry and no plane has ever been involved in an accident. The airline was included on the list of the top 10 best low-cost airlines in the world during 2018. During 2011 the airline was named as “North America’s Leading Low-Cost Airline.” By the World Travel Awards. They introduced Wi-Fi on board some of the airline’s planes. During 2014 they changed their structuring of airfares, to offer only two options which lowered costs. This enabled them to lower their Economy fare by more than 12%. Their order of new A32O family aircraft will ensure that they operate the youngest fleet in the US.

Currently Frontier flies to more than 88 US and international destinations in Canada, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Frontier Airlines wants to afford 90% of the US population the opportunity to board a Frontier flight with less than an hour’s drive. Their planning is to fly more than 300 non-stop routes to more than 82 cities. The planes on order will be used to serve new routes and it is estimated that at the current growth rate the airline will triple in size before 2028.
