What do the colors mean?
The white arrow on the runway points the way the traffic is going. Derived from the positions of aircraft flying low near the airport right now. Not an official runway plan; what we see.
Designation, direction and length of every runway. These rarely change; which one is in use right now shows up here whenever we observe traffic.

Fly direct
The destinations we know the most flight numbers for. That approximates how heavily a route is served; it is not a passenger count.
Other airports within reach, with the straight-line distance and the number of direct destinations we know of. Airports without scheduled service are left out.
Airport facts
LGB Airport, formally Long Beach International Airport (IATA: LGB, ICAO: KLGB), is a busy airport in the large size class serving the city of Long Beach, and one of the airports we track across the United States. In our records it is listed at coordinates 33.8165, -118.1499. The live radar on this page shows the aircraft arriving at and departing from Long Beach right now, and the arrivals and departures pages linked above it carry the current flight status; what this text adds is the part neither of them can tell you: how much traffic our own reception measurement actually picked up at Long Beach over a full month, which airlines showed up most in that sample, and which airports nearby make a workable plan B.
We measured Long Beach ourselves. Over 30 days, our own reception measurement logged the aircraft it picked up near LGB day by day, and that measurement averaged 33.4 observations per day. That is a 30-day mean, so a single quiet or hectic day barely moves it; it describes the normal level of traffic we receive from Long Beach, and it sits alongside the busy traffic level the airport carries in our records. The busiest window in that same measurement fell between 22:00 and 24:00, the two hours in which our measurement counted the most observations. One caveat: our measuring clock runs in UTC, so that window is a UTC pattern in the raw data, not a local Long Beach timetable.
Two carriers appear in our LGB sample, and the gap between them is hard to miss. Southwest Airlines dominates with 51 observations in 30 days, making it by far the most common airline our measurement recorded at Long Beach. Alaska Airlines turned up as well, though only 4 times in the same period, so the Long Beach sample is essentially a one-airline picture in our measurement. If your trip revolves around one specific carrier, the airline page is usually a quicker place to start than the full arrivals or departures page for the airport.
Our data set lists three airports near LGB, each with its own page on this site. The nearest is Jack Northrop Field Hawthorne Municipal Airport at 21 km. Next come Los Angeles International Airport at 28 km and John Wayne Orange County International Airport at 30 km on the Orange County side, so all three lie within 30 km of Long Beach. When a flight out of Long Beach is disrupted, LAX and John Wayne are the two alternatives from our list worth checking first, with the Hawthorne field as the closest option on paper for anyone who can use it.
