What do the colors mean?
The white arrow on the runway points the way the traffic is going. Derived from the positions of aircraft flying low near the airport right now. Not an official runway plan; what we see.
Designation, direction and length of every runway. These rarely change; which one is in use right now shows up here whenever we observe traffic.
4 runways · Longest runway: 12,894 ft

Practical
Transport by metro and bus; parking at the airport; picking someone up or dropping them off.
Fly direct
The destinations we know the most flight numbers for. That approximates how heavily a route is served; it is not a passenger count.
Other airports within reach, with the straight-line distance and the number of direct destinations we know of. Airports without scheduled service are left out.

Averaging 164.3 aircraft observations per day in our own 30-day reception measurement, Los Angeles Airport, formally Los Angeles International Airport (IATA LAX, ICAO KLAX), ranks at the very top of our data. The large airport serves Los Angeles, United States, and sits at 33.9425 north, 118.408 west. LAX is the code you see on tickets and booking confirmations; KLAX is the code used in aviation datasets, including ours. The live radar on this page shows the aircraft arriving at and departing from LAX right now, and the arrivals and departures pages linked above it list each flight with its time and status; the sections below add our measured traffic picture, the airlines we recorded most often, and nearby alternatives in the Los Angeles area.
The busiest window in our 30-day measurement at LAX fell between 00:00 and 02:00. Our measurement clock runs in UTC, so that window reflects universal time, not local Los Angeles time; convert it before you plan around it. That two-hour window marks when we recorded the most aircraft near LAX within the 30 days. The daily average in the opening comes from the same 30-day reception measurement and is the figure that places LAX at the top end of everything we measure. Both numbers are our own measurement, offered as background to the live radar rather than as a schedule.
Three carriers stand out clearly in our LAX data. American Airlines leads with 819 observations in 30 days; the airline page is American Airlines flight status. Delta Air Lines follows with 542 observations in the same period; see the Delta flight status page. Southwest Airlines completes the top three with 394 observations; its page is Southwest flight status. Those three are the carriers in our data for Los Angeles, listed in the order we recorded them.
Their status pages sit alongside the rest of our United States coverage, which starts from the airport overview.
LAX is not the only airfield in the region. Two alternatives with their own pages on this site are Long Beach International Airport, 28 km from LAX, and Hollywood Burbank/Bob Hope Airport, 29 km away. Both distances come from our database, and the two sit almost equally far from LAX, so which one fits depends on your part of the Los Angeles area rather than on the distance.
For any flight arriving at or departing from Los Angeles International Airport, the arrivals and departures pages linked above the radar on this page show the current status, while our 30-day measurement above tells you how busy the airport runs in our data and which carriers we recorded most often.
