Newark Airport departures: how to read the board

The departures board above lists the flights leaving Newark Liberty International today, with the scheduled departure time, the estimated or actual time, the destination and the status. It updates continuously; an estimated time later than the schedule means a delay, and departed means the aircraft has left the gate.

Check your terminal first: United Airlines departs from Terminals A and C, Delta, American Airlines, JetBlue and Spirit from the new Terminal A, and most international flights from Terminal B. Terminals B and C are linked by the AirTrain; Terminal A is a shuttle ride or a long covered walk away. Security is busiest in the early morning and in the evening international wave. Arrive two hours ahead for domestic flights and three for international.

Dropping off and getting there

Drop off at the departures curb of your terminal, for active unloading only. To walk in together, use the short-term garages. NJ Transit trains from New York Penn Station reach the Airport Train Station in about 30 minutes, with the AirTrain on to the terminals (a fare applies for that leg); the Newark Airport Express bus runs from Grand Central, Bryant Park and the Port Authority Bus Terminal to every terminal in about 50 minutes. Taxis and ride-hailing services drop off at the departures level.

The board is dominated by United flights across the United States and overseas, including Chicago O’Hare, San Francisco, Los Angeles and London Heathrow, Spirit and Frontier to Florida, Delta to Atlanta and the evening transatlantic wave to Dublin, Lisbon and Paris.
