As part of its summer schedule for 2023, the airline will launch a new route connecting London Heathrow Airport (LHR) with Florence Airport (FLR). This will be the airline’s 11th direct connection between London Heathrow Airport and Italy.
New route
Airbus A320neo will be used to connect LHR with FLR starting on April 26th. Flights will depart from terminal 5 at LHR and will operate on a daily basis. The airline anticipates that the route will be relatively popular with leisure travelers. Due to information gathered from a similar route, it has reason to believe the route will succeed.
London City Airport (LCY) and FLR are already connected by a similar flight, which mainly serves passengers traveling from Italy to London with London as their final destination. In addition to providing a convenient link to Florence from the US, the route to LHR will provide many connections for international travelers.
Chernoff shared British Airways’ enthusiasm for the new route. He shared how the airline anticipates the route will be well received and greatly benefit US and European travelers.
The flights’ timings have been optimized for connectivity to popular routes, including New York, Boston, and Chicago, making this a good news not just for UK travelers, but also for those connecting in London from US destinations.”
Second place
The airline British Airways announced this new route shortly after the Italian airline Aeroitalia launched its new connecting service. The Aeroitalia route connecting LHR and FLR went live just this week, on December 26th. They’ll operate the service twice a week next summer and hope to increase frequency to five times per week in the future. In less than a few months, flights between these two airports have gone from nonexistent to being serviced by two airlines.
Schedule for the summer
Airlines around the world are preparing to meet the surge in demand that they’ve already experienced since COVID-19 restrictions were eased. Citing data from a recent company release which predicted an increase in demand for business travel, British Airways expects this growth to continue into 2022. The airline has seen a dramatic rise in demand for leisure and leisure airfares have also increased. The airline is also only expecting further growth due to increased business routes for their customers and plans on expanding their connections across the globe.
Airline plans to open several new routes next summer, including a connection between LHR and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG). Additionally, the airline plans to start air transit between LHR and Portland International Airport (PDX). Next summer, the airline plans to launch a route connecting London Gatwick Airport (LGW) with Aruba, as well as a flight service between LGW and Guyana.
